La empresa mexicana Cemex se comprometió a reducir el uso de carbono en su planta Rüdersdorf, en Alemania, con el fin de impulsar a las energías renovables, tendencia que en países europeos, así como en Estados Unidos, está tomando fuerza con miras a un mundo industrial más sustentable.
Es así que Cemex acordó con consorcios industriales de Alemania formar parte de la Alianza de Carbono Neutral, en donde por medio de dicho acuerdo se evaluarán diversas tecnologías para la utilización del carbono y producir hidrógeno con energía renovable.
Pese a que el objetivo de dicha alianza es lograr que la planta alemana de Cemex logre su neutralidad de carbono para el año 2030, la empresa apuntó que los aprendizajes técnicos que se vayan recabando serán compartidos gradualmente en el portafolio global de las demás plantas de la cementera.
Aunado a esto, Stefan Schmorleiz, gerente de la planta y director de Cemex Zement GmbH, suscribió en un comunicado que las acciones estarán orientadas a optimizar su producción hacia un uso más amigable con el medio ambiente.
“Se espera que el CO2 se procese aún más para convertirlo en nuevas formas de energía y materiales para uso local en los sectores industrial, residencial y de transporte. Junto con nuestros socios, realizaremos estudios de factibilidad de soluciones económicas para descarbonizar la producción de cemento”, señaló Schmorleiz.
