Las “nuevas oleadas” por Covid-19 en muchos países demuestra que la pandemia está “lejos de haber terminado”, advirtió el martes la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS).
El director de la organización, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, destacó quen los reportes de las Naciones Unidas aumentaron 30% en las dos últimas semanas, debido a las subvariantes de ómicron (BA.4 y BA.5) y el levantamiento de las medidas sanitarias.
Ante esta situación y el aumento de la presión sobre los sistemas sanitarios, Tedros pidió a los gobiernos actuar con medidas que ya se han demostrado eficaces.
«A medida que aumentan las hospitalizaciones y la transmisión de covid-19, los gobiernos deben implementar medidas como el uso de mascarillas, una ventilación mejorada y protocolos de detección y tratamiento», añadió.
«El virus corre libremente y los países no están gestionando eficazmente la carga de la enfermedad en función de su capacidad», dijo, refiriéndose a la hospitalización de pacientes con infecciones graves y el creciente número de personas con covid largo.
