El Museo de Arte de Orlando se quedó sin director ejecutivo días después de que el FBI allanó la institución de Florida y confiscó más de dos docenas de pinturas atribuidas al artista Jean-Michel Basquiat que son objeto de una investigación sobre fraude electrónico y asociación ilícita.
La junta directiva del museo está “extremadamente preocupada” por la exposición de 25 pinturas cuya autenticidad está en tela de juicio, así como por un correo electrónico “inapropiado” que el ex-CEO y director Aaron De Groft envió a una experta académica en arte cuando ésta le pidió que no utilizara su nombre en la promoción de las obras, dijo Cynthia Brumback, presidenta de la junta del museo, en un comunicado.
“Hemos lanzado un proceso oficial para abordar estos asuntos, ya que son incompatibles con los valores de esta institución, nuestros estándares comerciales y nuestros estándares de conducta”, señaló Brumback.
El comunicado no decía si De Groft renunció o fue despedido, y una vocera del museo no respondió de inmediato una pregunta enviada por correo electrónico ayer.
En el mail a la experta en arte no identificada, De Groft la instó a “callar” y amenazó con decirle a su empleador que le pagaron 60 mil dólares por escribir un informe sobre las obras, cuando ella dijo que ya no quería estar asociada con la promoción de ellas.
“¿Quieres que anunciemos que recibiste 60 mil dólares para escribir esto? OK entonces. Cállate la boca. Aceptaste el dinero. Deja de hacerte la santurrona. Tú hiciste esto, no yo ni nadie más”, dijo.
